I am always down to try the coolest health trends, especially one that I find highly intriguing. When I had the opportunity to come in for a cryotherapy session at Cryomed Boston with my sister and her boyfriend, I was thrilled! All the ‘cool kids’ were doing it so why not see what the hype surrounding it was all about?! If I can handle the brutal New England winters here, I can certainly succumb my body to three minutes of teeth chattering temperatures!
The moment we walked in we were warmly greeted by Dr. Daniela Winston, the co-owner of the spa, who addressed any of our questions and concerns. The staff was so accommodating and we immediately felt at ease! Not to mention, the ambiance of the spa set the tone for our anticipated cryo session.‘Cryo-‘ literally means cold, yes, ice cold therapy. I’m talking BRrRR, down to a chilling -256 degrees freeze! When our bodies are exposed to extreme temperatures, it goes into survival mode. In turn, that causes our blood supply to flow to our most vital organs bringing oxygen and important nutrients to compensate. It’s amazing how our body works in unison!
Once my three minute cryotherapy session was over, I felt a sudden change in my overall composure. That’s because the less toxic and oxygen-enriched blood circulated back into my body. It was cathartic; a purifying purge of sorts. My endorphins were kicking in full force! Cryotherapy is not just for athletes; it’s for people who want to maintain a healthier lifestyle. Whether you’re super active, someone struggling with arthritis, or if you simply want to improve on your wellness, trying won’t hurt! I am by no means a gym buff, but I am always on the go with blogging and traveling in between. I also work long hours in the office so the constant sitting and staring at the computer screen takes a toll on my fatigued body. After the treatment, my skin felt firm, my muscles were less sore, and I was alert and energized. It was a truly unique experience, but simultaneously an invigorating one.
